in oakland and i understand hundreds of workers are walking the picket line. >> reporter: the protestors have been out here since 3:00 a.m. this morning. you can see they have quite a turnout here at the 98th avenue location in oakland. hundreds of union workers from the international long shore and warehouse union. they want better wages and safer work conditions. we just talked with one man who worked for waste management for 23 years. he tells us it's not easy to give up a whole days wages but he says this is an important fight. >> it's a struggle for them. this job is dangerous. you have to be very careful not to get hurt. it's a struggle but they are fed up. we're just fed up and we're going to continue to do this until they finally respect us. >> reporter: waste management employees are protesting at three locations today. this is a look at the san leandro facility on davis street. union workers are also protesting at the altamont landfill east of livermore. we just talked with a spokesperson from waste management he told us he was very surpr

. beautiful day outside. oakland cooler 68. san francisco cooler downtown, 65. and check out the coast. it only hit 55 degrees at half moon bay so a 21-degree temperature spread between our inland locations and at the coastline. i checked this out. did a little number crunching. the average first 80-degree day over the past three days in santa rosa it's early april. all three of you, san jose, livermore and santa rosa may hit 80 tomorrow. in mid-march. something crazy is going on. we have a ridge of high pressure which is in the perfect location not only to keep us dry, that's the easy part. the hard part is getting the wind direction to be exactly where it needs to be to get us that offshore wind. it happens in the fall not as often in the springtime but it's in the perfect location to give us very warm weather tomorrow. now, as soon as thursday, things begin to change. high pressure will sink to the south. the ridge will flatten if you will. we get more of a zonal or west to east -- we'll stay dry but it won't be as warm. the peak of the heat wi

'll be doing some critical work on the new oakland airport connector kron 4's charles clifford shows us what it will mean for drivers. >> reporter: this is a google earth map. starting saturday morning, bart will begin installing new railways over instate 880...here... just west of hegenberger road. this is part of the ongoing work to complete the new oakland airport connector. in order to finish the work, crews will first need to shutdown the two lefthand lanes of north bound 880 starting at 11am on saturday morning. that closure will last all day on saturday. then from 1am until 6am on sunday morning, caltrans will completely shutdown all northbound lanes of 880 at hegenberger road. the southbound lanes will remain open. cars travelling north can detour around the closure by first exiting 880 at hegenberger road. then they will have to turn left onto edes avenue, cross over hegenberger and continue along coliseum way. they will then drive past oracle arena and the coliseum before merging back onto northbound 880 just past 66th avenue. now this weekend's closures, will be repeated the follo

continues after a deadly shooting and 10 hour standoff in oakland. the standoff started just after one this morning when police went to inspect a residence after two gunshot victims were hospitalized. police traced a potential suspect to a home on 25th avenue. the scene was cleared at about 11:30 a.m., according to police and they detained several people for questioning but at this time it is not clear if the shooting suspect is in custody. one of the shooting victims died, the other victim is in serious condition tonight. four people hurt in vallejo today when a pick up truck drove through a thrift store. one of those injured included the driver. the seriousness of the injured to the driver and other customers are not know. the cause of the crash is also investigation. a d-u-i and license checkpoint in santa rosa leads to multiple arrests. santa rosa police arrested five for driving under the influence. 17 were cited for driving without a license and four others for driving with a suspended license. plus - the verdict is in for two football players accused of raping a 16 year old and
